MOWAA museum identity

A brand identity for MOWAA (Museum of West African Art) that brings to life their heritage and highlights their ambitions for the future.

Museum of West African Art (MOWAA)
MOWAA was conceived to be a world class museum where education, archaeology, heritage management and art (both from antiquity to modern) had a home in Nigeria. They have identified the need to own the narrative of West Africa’s rich heritage and create a modern-day cultural renaissance by embarking on an endeavour to create not just a museum, but a whole Creative District, world-class arts, culture, and heritage complex, to celebrate, research, and conserve West African art from antiquity to the modern day.
Objective
Build a brand and website that helps position MOWAA as the leading voice in West African art and culture to spark a cultural renaissance. The brand will help elevate them alongside existing established cultural institutions. That combines the heritage they are known for with a progressive outlook that can match their ambitious vision and set them up for the future.
Solution
In a series of online workshops, we’ve worked with the MOWAA team to identify their audiences, retrace the core idea behind their old brand and redesign it to sit alongside other creative institutions. Followed by information architecture and a lean digital process to offer them a website redesign that accommodates all their needs and aligns with their multiple audience segments.
